Today I'm listing my most popular post of 2023. We'll take a look back at it and see what I would add now. Hint: If you click the title it will take you to the original post.

This post was when I sat down and came up with a solid plan for the blog and what I wanted to do - post once a month, on the third Friday. I'm surprised how many people viewed this post, and it may be the incentive I needed to keep it up! So, thank you! Now let's recap:
I wrote this because I often hear the comment "I don't get much out of the Bible," and I wanted to offer some insight. In the post I talk about two different types of reading - informational and formational. I offered some suggestions to help with formational reading and some questions you can ask yourself about your experience. Lastly, I brought in the sacred pathways to help you process what you've read throughout the day. I think my favourite line was "you don’t have to keep up with the Jones’ when it comes to Bible reading." I'm going to give myself kudos for that one.
What I would add:
Not a whole lot actually. I'm still really happy with what I wrote. You should go check it out. I can see why it was my most popular post!
Here's how spiritual direction can help...
A professionally trained spiritual director has an arsenal of ways to engage with God, the Bible, and others tucked away just waiting to share it. While most sessions aren't about teaching new ways of being a Christian (instead of doing what a Christian is supposed to do), you may come away from a session with something new you've learned.
I don't intentionally include practices in my sessions for two reasons. One: the person I'm speaking with may already have something they wish to discuss so I don't want to impede their growth. Two: if I have an agenda, where does that leave room for the Holy Spirit? That being said, if something comes up, I will bring in those practices and lead you through them if you wish.
One thing I've learned about my personal private practice, especially in light of spiritual abuse and religious trauma, everything is permission based - even the prayer to begin and end the session. This is your time. I open the space for you.

This doesn't mean much for you, but if you decide to purchase a book I recommended, I'll get a little kick-back.
Remember, I would not recommend something I don't support.
